Since baby thoughts are about all that's only on my mind. Thought I would share this in case the idea is of help to anyone else (though its not anything revolutionary).
I picked up this changing table on the side of the road around three years ago (it was fully intact at that time). It has been used for both little man and baby girl. That was until little man did, what we call, a butt bomb on it. (You know when you stand up and drop straight down on your bum, it's usually done on a trampoline and works much better there). When little man did this the platform fell straight through, so did he. He was a late potty trainer so was pretty big at the time (like 3yo) so the little fall through didn't hurt him.
Anyway, here's changing table in its previous life-
I have had plans to fix-er-up for some time but thankfully my much more skilled husband took on the job.... and, might I add, did a much better job than I would have. There wasn't much to it, but he did measure some of the slat distances and compare them to current crib safety requirement (good man). He just did a little raising and re-enforcing of the middle shelf area to be closer to the top of our mattress.
Nothing glamourous, which fits in with the upstairs area of our house at the moment (we will get there).
For now we will use the top of the dresser as the changing table instead. It's much sturdier anyway. Baby girl I just change on the floor, she is heavy to pick up.
Having the newborns sleep in our room has worked out best for me and my nursing. I know all situations and all babies are different. The key for us has been putting them in bed still awake and teaching them to fall asleep alone. There are steps to this process but it has worked each time for us so far. Both kids transitioned out of our room pretty quick as babies. Not to say there wasn't challenges along the way.
Hopefully next post will be about new baby?
FYI, we got our pork back. Freezer is stocked.
